Eile is an independent publisher with a primary interest in developing new writing and reviving neglected work from and / or about the Irish diaspora. The name of the press is the Irish word meaning ‘other’. We seek to showcase the work of writers and artists informed by diasporic experience, and by identities affirmed in the face of a ‘hostile environment’. We begin in 2025 with a parallel text tradition from a 17th century Irish poet, our plans embrace a catholic range of subject, format and genre. Eile is run by Gav Clarke and John O’Donoghue.
The logo design is a letter ‘e’ from the Irish script cló gaelach / seancló devised for printing Early Modern Irish. This particular letter form comes from the masthead of the Irish language newspaper ‘An Claidheamh Soluis’ (1899-1932).
